Guided Mountainbike Weeks

Orange Monkeys off the Pic du Midi

Experience the thrills and excitment of mountain biking through one of the largest forests in Europe, in the heart of the French Pyrenees. The lush wooded valleys of the Central Pyrenees are ideal for mountain biking at all levels. The Eastern Pyrenees offers little shade by comparison with relentless heat and hard gravel tracks. Whether you prefer to kick up some dust, climb through the shade, or tackle demon descents, our guides will help you find your ideal down hill descent.

There is no need to take a minibus from our base, all the routes you could hope for are right on the doorstep. Set out from Les Sorbiers our base for the week accend the winding route up to Pic d’Ayre then decsend Pierre Polonaise 57 hairpins back into the valley, perhaps head to the right after 6km to the Aygues Cluses Valley. Here you’ll find over 200kms of way marked mountain biking tracks. Alternatively, head out of Bareges and up the Col de Tourmalet an hours climb decsend to La Mongie and catch the cable car up to Pic du Midi 2877m, from here you can traverse the valley sides and have a 20 km decsent back to the village great views of the pyrenees a fifth of France can be seen from here!!!

Leaving the village to the East is the greatest challenge, the Montagne Fleurie circuit this is steep, no trouble on an MTB. Once at the top, there are lots of great rides back to choose from. Try the Capet road with views of Gavarnie and the Breche de Roland, starting as a forest track, then becoming a footpath, then traversing on fabulous single-track; this is one route for the technically minded! You could equally drop back down to the valley following the GR10, technical with huge boulders, great fun! Stay high and go over into the Bolou Valley towards Betpouey… the list goes on and on… These are some of the rides we will be doing during the mountain bike week in Bareges.
